Hayfever / Sinus

Australians like to 'live outside' during the warmer months, however the backyard barby can be a bit difficult if you have hayfever or sinus and are allergic to airborne allergens.  These conditions can also be chronic with a smaller percentage of the population sufferring hayfever and/or sinus from various allergens or other triggers all year round.

Hayfever

Hayfever is a very common chronic disease, affecting a large percentage of the population.  It is the most common reason for chronic sinus and nose problems.

Hayfever is defined as inflammation and irritation of the nasal passages due to seasonal and year-round allergens, and symptoms include: sneezing, runny nose, nasal congestion, itching of the nose and eyes, and post nasal drip.

Many people take antihistamines to eliminate the symptoms of hayfever, however this is not always completely successful.  A naturopath can assist you to get your hayfever under control, and can provide a number of natural remedies for this condition.

Sinusitis

Sinusitis refers to inflammation of the sinuses, and can be very painful.  It can be caused by viral infections such as a cold, allergies, nasal polyps, hayfever and other abnormalities of the nose and sinus cavities.

People with sinusitis may experience bad breath, a cough, fever, nasal congestion, discharge of mucous, toothache, pain in the sinuses and swelling of the face.  Many people are prescribed medications for their sinus, but very often the sinus becomes chronic and/or recurs as soon as the medication is discontinued.

An experienced naturopath can assess your sinus condition, refer you for a food intolerance test (if required) and provide alternative natural remedies to relieve the symptoms.
